Activity

?

Most days require — or offer the option to engage in — longer or more strenuous walking (often 4+ miles or 8,000+ steps), extended standing, or varied terrain such as hills, sand, or cobblestones. Guests should be comfortable crouching to climb into and out of more rugged vehicles or small planes frequently. Some days may also include active excursions like biking, kayaking, horseback riding, or water sports. While less demanding alternatives may be available, the core experience typically involves sustained physical effort and is best suited to guests comfortable with a consistently active pace.

Experiences of a lifetime

From the Big Five to silverback Mountain Gorillas, wildlife is the draw on this 16-day safari in Kenya, Tanzania and Rwanda, where game drives and a special mountain trek reward with once-in-a-lifetime encounters with animals, both endemic and endangered... highlighted by an opportunity to "meet" a gorilla family living in the wilds of Rwanda and a visit to the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund Museum, dedicated to saving the endangered mountain gorilla.

Gorillas in your midst... Spend the last three nights of your 16-day African safari to Kenya and Tanzania in Rwanda, home to some of the last remaining mountain gorillas on Earth. Learn insights and observations about gorilla behavior at private lectures and during a visit to the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund Museum before your once-in-a-lifetime gorilla trek begins. A private porter will carry your provisions as an expert guide leads you into the wilderness for your gorilla encounter. Once the gorillas are located, you will have the rare opportunity to watch them interact with each other – and you if they choose! Your adventure includes talks by conservationists working to save these endangered gorillas from extinction. All departures are small groups, limited to 24 guests. Special experiences include; game drives in the national parks of Tanzania and Kenya; private lecture on famous elephants of Amboseli and anti-poaching efforts; a hot air balloon ride at dawn followed by a champagne breakfast in the bush; and a guided gorilla trek in Volcanoes National Park for a one-hour gorilla family visit and a private lecture on conservation programs underway in Rwanda. Safari FAQS: Know before you go

A picnic in Ngorongoro Crater

Enjoy a memorable picnic lunch in Ngorongoro Crater's "lost world"

Believed by many to have been Africa's original "Garden of Eden," Ngorongoro Crater ranks among the world's largest calderas, and contains one of the oldest and most diverse ecosystems on Earth. Within this dormant volcano's walls lie short grasslands, swamps, forests and a freshwater lake – all of which inspire a continuous parade of migrating wildlife. You'll not only embark on a game drive in this "lost world," but a private picnic lunch inside the crater will be a highlight of your trip.

A champagne breakfast on safari

Cap a balloon ride with a champagne breakfast in the bush

As if a hot air balloon ride over the awakening wildlife roaming Kenya's Masai Mara Reserve at dawn isn't exciting enough... imagine descending from your lofty perch above the plains to enjoy a very special champagne breakfast in the African bush...

Private game drives throughout your trip

Set off on private game drives on specially built safari vehicles

Hop aboard your specially built safari vehicle and make tracks on a daily game drive (or two) across the classic African savannah stretching out before you... in Tanzania's Serengeti National Park, and in Kenya's Amboseli National Park and Masai Mara Reserve. Guiding you on your treks in search of the "Big Five" and other iconic wildlife are our expert drivers, trackers, rangers, and Tauck Directors... all highly experienced and eager to share their knowledge while keeping everyone engaged, safe and sound on the adventure of a lifetime!
