Legendary Journeys and Adventures

You don’t just hear music in New Orleans and Louisiana’s “Cajun country”… you feel it, indelibly woven into the fabric of life. The strains of every genre you can think of – smoky blues, pulsating Caribbean rhythms, acoustic, country, rock, soul, r&b, nouveau swing, hip-hop and more... and, naturally, a tasty buffet of jazz styles... envelop you along Bourbon Street and throughout the French Quarter...

The streets take on a life of their own… The spirits of Satchmo and Jelly Roll permeate Basin Street and New Orleans Jazz National Park. Traditional jazz lives on within the homey confines of Preservation Hall... while moving out to the bayou, the music continues... Explore New Orleans & Mississippi River Country as an insider with Tauck Exclusives like a private demonstration and lunch at the New Orleans School of Cooking... a private streetcar tour along Canal Street and St. Charles Avenue... a flightseeing tour... a private jazz experience at world-famous Preservation Hall... a private mint julep reception and mansion house dinner... a jazz reception and dinner at Arnaud's... and exclusive, on-tour film vignettes by filmmaker Ken Burns. Explore the bayou on an alligator bayou boat tour... Louisiana's historic Mississippi River plantations... and enjoy state-of-the-art exhibits, a 4-D experience, brunch and a USO-style Stage Door Canteen show at the National World War II Museum. Go flightseeing over New Orleans

Day 3

The "Crescent City" from the air – and an exclusive talk by expert Nellie Watson

You’ll get a whole new perspective on the city of New Orleans when you see it from the air! Take to the skies for a flightseeing tour that includes bird’s-eye views of downtown New Orleans, the French Quarter, the Lower Ninth Ward, the Mississippi River, Lake Pontchartrain, Lafitte, the Chalmette Battlefield, the Gulf of Mexico, various canals and wetlands, and more. Your on-the-ground experience includes a Tauck Exclusive private lecture by environmental architect Nellie Watson on the unique geological environment of New Orleans, America’s only city situated below sea level.

Alligator Bayou tours

Day 4

Take an Alligator Bayou tour in a private boat with a local guide

Venture out from New Orleans into the countryside and join our local guide for an alligator bayou tour aboard a private excursion boat. Keep an eye out for alligators and other swamp critters as you drift through the bayous of the Louisiana wetlands with your experienced guide… learn about the local legends, lore and culture, and spot plenty of native flora and fauna as you wind your way through Cajun Country.

Tauck Exclusive – Private Preservation Hall performance

Day 2

A Tauck Exclusive, private performance for our guests only at New Orleans' legendary Preservation Hall

Situated in the heart of the French Quarter on St. Peter Street in New Orleans, Preservation Hall was established in 1961 to honor one of America’s truest art forms – traditional New Orleans Jazz. Operating as a music venue, a touring band, and a non-profit organization, Preservation Hall continues its mission today as a cornerstone of New Orleans music and culture – presenting intimate, acoustic traditional jazz concerts over 350 nights a year, featuring ensembles of local master musicians. And on "New Orleans and Mississippi River Plantation Country," you’ll enjoy the rare privilege of a private performance for our guests only at legendary Preservation Hall, in the heart of the "Birthplace of Jazz."

Nottoway Resort

Nights 4 and 5

Spend two nights at the South's largest antebellum mansion

On the Mississippi River between Baton Rouge and New Orleans stands Nottoway Resort, the South’s largest antebellum mansion, built in 1859 as the heart of sugar planter John Hampden Randolph’s palatial estate. Nottoway has survived the Civil War, a variety of owners, and years of decline and disrepair to become a favorite destination for visitors the world over. Tauck guests will stay in Nottoway’s The Cottages – modern luxury hotel rooms with full amenities, inspired by the local Creole style of architecture.

Aside from the weather, the trip was super...leader was great...informed and caring. Love the small size trips..met some lovely people...great sights and food, except for dinner at Antoine’s which was bad. Hotels were very good, including the Plantation. Sightseeing great and enough free time. Tracing with Tauck again next year.

Most Memorable Moment:

By far...the concert at Preservation Hall...and the flightseeing.

This was our 12th trip with Tauck. We had a wonderful tour director. We understand the reason behind staying at the Hotel Monteleone, being location, but the rooms have no counter space in the room or bathroom. Staff wonderful!! We liked the Nottoway rooms and bathroom, but no bathrobes. Ritz Carlton was great! Our driver was great!

Most Memorable Moment:

Flying in the small plane for the overview of the New Orleans area. We also loved the swamp tour. Our guide was excellent. Our local guide was great telling about New Orleans. We're back in March for the Event in New Orleans. So many great restaurants!
