Discover the Hudson River's heart, soul and history as you explore a rich legacy of history in the Hudson Valley, traveling from Montreal to New York City.

Legendary Journeys and Adventures

Like the luminous landscapes of 19th-century artists like Thomas Cole and Asher Durand, the Hudson River has the power to enthrall with its deep forests, plunging waterfalls, wandering tributaries, cliffs and rugged mountain vistas... not to mention the cultural currents, castles, vineyards and fabulous estates that follow its wandering path down from Canada to the sea.

Enjoy exclusive filmed vignettes by filmmakers Ken Burns and Dayton Duncan that share personal stories and take you behind the scenes of their films such as The Roosevelts and Brooklyn Bridge. Discover the heart, soul and history of this legendary waterway on a Hudson Valley tour that begins in romantic Montreal and winds through the rugged beauty of the Adirondacks... rambles in Lake Placid (with an Olympic ski jump demonstration), the farm of John Brown and an island retreat at Lake George...  visits to the historic estates of the Rockefellers and the Roosevelts, a wine tasting, and overnight stays at elegant lakeside resorts and lodges... with the final stop at New York City and the electrifying Crossroads of the World. Hudson River Valley Estates

Days 5 – 8

The "Gilded Age" estates of the Hudson River Valley

Henry Hudson accidentally stumbled upon the Hudson River Valley while looking for a short cut to Asia in 1609, finding it a place of great wild beauty, although inhospitable to humans. But the settlers who followed found it to be resource rich as they colonized what eventually became New York. By 1850, steamboats brought countless travelers – including artists, writers and industrialists – to the area; impressed by its scenic grandeur, many built gilded riverside mansions, including some you'll discover on this journey – Frederick Church's Olana, Boscobel Mansion, the Rockefellers' Kykuit, and the Roosevelts' Springwood.

Ski jumping at Lake Placid

Day 3

Watch a ski jump demonstration at Lake Placid's Olympic Training Center

The U.S. Olympic Training Center in Lake Placid, New York occupies the former site of the 1932 and 1980 Olympic Winter Games. The current center, which opened in 1982, offers training facilities for biathlon, bobsled and skeleton, figure skating, ice hockey, luge, skiing, ski jumping, snowboarding and speed skating, among others. Watch the thrilling hurl-into-flight during a ski-jumping demonstration… and drink in the area’s beauty over lunch – served in a private room on an observation level at the top of a ski jump tower with great views of the action.

The Sagamore Resort

Night 4

The Sagamore – a legend in itself on the shores of Lake George

The Sagamore Resort on Lake George is a landmark hotel with a prestigious history that dates back to the 1880s. Secluded on a private 70-acre island north of Albany, The Sagamore has hosted families and celebrities alike with their signature hospitality established over a century ago by Myron O. Brown. The historic enclave offers elegant lakeside accommodations, award-winning dining, an 18-hole Donald Ross-designed golf course and a commitment to creating remarkable guest experiences every day. The Sagamore is today a year-round luxury resort, restored to its original splendor and placed on the National Register of Historic Places.

The Hudson Valley tour went beyond our expectations, even for Tauck. I really enjoyed the whole Adirondack experience, it was the highlight of my trip!
