Activity

?

Most days require — or offer the option to engage in — longer or more strenuous walking (often 4+ miles or 8,000+ steps), extended standing, or varied terrain such as hills, sand, or cobblestones. Guests should be comfortable crouching to climb into and out of more rugged vehicles or small planes frequently. Some days may also include active excursions like biking, kayaking, horseback riding, or water sports. While less demanding alternatives may be available, the core experience typically involves sustained physical effort and is best suited to guests comfortable with a consistently active pace.

Experiences of a lifetime

One of the greatest shows on Earth, the great migration is an epic wildlife spectacle unrivaled anywhere. A moving pageantry with a cast of millions, this is when herds of animals are on the move through Africa from the Serengeti National Park in Tanzania to the Masai Mara National Reserve in Kenya and back again... on the ultimate quest for food, water and survival, determined to let nothing stop them in their tracks...

To witness the Great Migration from tented safari camps and on expertly guided game drives is to become part of Africa's extraordinary circle of life... Vast herds of wildebeest move across the plains alongside zebras and gazelles, with predators never far behind, on an annual journey through Tanzania's Serengeti and Kenya's greater Maasai Mara ecosystem. Spend two nights in the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, with a game drive and picnic lunch in the wildlife-rich crater... fly from Lake Manyara to Serengeti National Park, where a stay in a mobile safari camp offers opportunities to follow the migration on game drives with expert trackers, along with a memorable hot-air balloon flight over the plains at dawn... then fly to Kenya for two nights at a new safari camp in the secluded Olderkesi Conservancy, a 24,700-acre wilderness bordering the Maasai Mara National Reserve. Explore its open plains and acacia woodlands on game drives, with a choice of a full day of wildlife viewing or a visit to a local Maasai community. Among the most distinctive experiences is a stay in a mobile safari camp designed to follow the movements of wildebeest, zebras, eland, and gazelles as they seek fresh grazing, often pursued by lions, hyenas, and leopards. A remarkable opportunity to experience one of nature's greatest spectacles... Read Less

Above the Wild: A Ballooning Experience

Follow the migration in a mobile camp

Our first moving safari's mobile camp follows migrating wildlife

Every year, over a million wildebeest and more than 200,000 zebras make a trek across Tanzania from the southern reaches of Serengeti National Park to the Masai Mara National Reserve and back again, instinctively driven to constantly search for food and water. On Tauck's first "moving safari," follow this "Great Migration" with a three-night stay in tented accommodations at Legendary Serengeti Mobile Camp – moving with the wildlife as they traverse the heart of Serengeti National Park, and heading out on game drives each morning and afternoon.

Do I need a passport, visa, or any other travel documents?

Passports:

A passport is required to enter Kenya and Tanzania. It must be valid for a minimum of six months beyond your entry date and must contain at least two blank pages.

To ensure the smoothest delivery of your tour documents, we ask that you provide us your passport information at least 60 days prior to departure.

Visas are required to enter Kenya and Tanzania. You may obtain these visas electronically once you're within 3 months of your departure.

Tauck partners with VisaCentral to help with visa processing, but you are not required to use their services and may instead apply online for a Kenya eVisa and a Tanzania eVisa.

If you choose to use VisaCentral, you can visit their website, call 844-860-7199, or email tauck@visacentral.com.

Once you book your journey, additional information to help you with your visa application will be available in My Account.

Traveling with children as a guardian:

If you are traveling as the guardian of children, we strongly suggest that you carry a letter from both parents authorizing emergency treatment in case of an illness or accident. For travel abroad, many foreign countries have specific entry requirements for children under 21 who are traveling without BOTH parents. Tauck is not responsible for travel disruptions caused by improper documentation for children traveling without both parents.

Are there any recommended vaccinations?

Some countries visited on this journey may require proof of certain vaccinations for entry. For the most up-to-date health and vaccination information, we recommend you consult with a travel medical specialist, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the World Health Organization (WHO), and the embassies of the countries you'll visit.

Regarding the Yellow Fever vaccination:

You will need to show proof of Yellow Fever vaccination to enter Kenya. If you're unable to receive the vaccine, you will need to show a medical exemption note from your doctor to immigration officials upon entering the country. As requirements can change without notice, it's important to check for the latest updates before you travel.

How physically demanding is this journey?

Tauck journeys are designed for guests in good health. Depending on your destination, you may walk longer distances, climb stairs, and navigate uneven terrain. To help you choose the experience that suits you best, we've created a rating system for the activity level and pace of each itinerary. You can find the ratings for this journey in the overview section above. For more details about what to expect on tour, visit our Activity & Pace page.

Guests should feel comfortable getting into and out of safari vehicles each day. Safari vehicles are not air conditioned, and the areas covered on game drives are usually unpaved, bumpy, and dusty.

Those who choose to take part in the scheduled hot air balloon ride should be at ease with higher elevations and climbing into and out of the basket. Guests who weigh more than 265 pounds (120 kilograms) may be charged an additional fee by the balloon operator.

Can Tauck accommodate mobility limitations?

The responsibility of your Tauck Director is to ensure the larger group enjoys a relaxing and seamless journey; therefore, he or she cannot provide ongoing assistance to any one guest.

Accessibility Accommodations: Guests who require accessibility accommodations must notify Tauck at the time of booking, or as soon as the need for accommodation arises. Guests are also responsible for promptly notifying Tauck if there is a material change in their mobility, accessibility, cognitive, or other participation-related needs after booking and prior to departure that may affect their ability to participate in the Trip or require accommodations, special arrangements, or reassessment of participation. Tauck will make reasonable efforts, in coordination with our suppliers, to attempt to accommodate such requests. Unfortunately, not all requests can be fulfilled. We are not responsible for denial of service by carriers, hotels, or other independent suppliers.

Personal Assistance: Tauck regrets that it cannot provide special assistance for walking, wheelchairs, dining, or other personal needs. If you need such assistance, you must be accompanied by an able companion who will assist you.

Mobility Requirements: Due to operational constraints, including limited cargo space, stairs, and uneven or difficult terrain, we regret that some itineraries cannot accommodate wheelchairs or electric scooters.
