East Africa's annual migration should be a bucket-list item for every travel enthusiast.

Experiences of a lifetime

One of the greatest shows on Earth, the great migration is an epic wildlife spectacle unrivaled anywhere. A moving pageantry with a cast of millions, this is when herds of animals are on the move through Africa from the Serengeti National Park in Tanzania to the Masai Mara National Reserve in Kenya and back again... on the ultimate quest for food, water and survival, determined to let nothing stop them in their tracks...

To witness the Migration from tented safari camps perfectly pitched and game drives strategically sited is to truly become a part of Africa’s ever poignant circle of life... Staggering numbers of wildebeest thunder across the plains alongside zebras and gazelles that gallop and sprint their way through the wilderness, predators in wait, on an annual march that takes them from the Serengeti National Park in Tanzania to the Masai Mara National Reserve in Kenya... Spend two nights in the Ngorongoro Conservation Area with a game drive and picnic lunch in the wildlife-rich crater... fly from Lake Manyara to Serengeti National Park where overnight stays in a mobile camp enable timely sightings of migrating wildlife on private safari game drives with expert trackers... a flight from the Serengeti to wildlife-rich Masai Mara National Reserve is followed by two nights in a safari camp with daily game drives... and a morning flight touches down in Nairobi for a day in Karen with visits to the Giraffe Centre, home to endangered Rothschild giraffes, and to an elephant orphanage dedicated to rescued baby and teenage elephants. Unique experiences include custom film vignettes created by BBC Earth exclusively for Tauck; a stay in a mobile safari camp designed to move with wildebeest, zebras, eland and gazelles as they migrate to grassier plains, usually followed by natural predators such as lions, hyenas and leopards; a hot air balloon ride with breakfast in either the Serengeti or Masai Mara; and a private visit to Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage with exclusive viewing of baby elephants at feeding time. A most remarkable travel experience... Read Less

Follow the migration in a mobile camp

Days 4, 5 and 6

Our first moving safari's mobile camp follows migrating wildlife

Every year, over a million wildebeest and more than 200,000 zebras make a trek across Tanzania from the southern reaches of Serengeti National Park to the Masai Mara National Reserve and back again, instinctively driven to constantly search for food and water. On Tauck's first "moving safari," follow this "Great Migration" with a three-night stay in tented accommodations at Legendary Serengeti Mobile Camp – moving with the wildlife as they traverse the heart of Serengeti National Park, and heading out on game drives each morning and afternoon.

Kenya's Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage

Day 9

Visit baby elephants at the Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage

The Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage in the Nairobi suburb of Karen, Kenya, was created to save and protect baby elephants orphaned by poachers' attacks. The orphanage is part of the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, founded in the 1970s by the late Kenyan wildlife conservationist Daphne Sheldrick in honor of her husband, the founding warden of Kenya's largest national park in the 1940s. An unforgettable visit to this remarkable institution includes the special experience of watching and interacting with baby elephants at feeding time.

Ballooning over the Masai Mara

Enjoy a hot air balloon ride over the Masai Mara reserve

You're up before dawn to board a private hot air balloon for a sunset soar over the savanna of Masai Mara National Reserve in southern Kenya... and a birds-eye view of vast herds of animals like lions, cheetahs, zebras, giraffes and elephants as they start their day in the wilderness... then touch down for your a champagne breakfast in the bush!
