Peruvian Pasos in the Sacred Valley

An equestrian demonstration featuring Peruvian Pasos

Elegant Peruvian Paso horses are known for their graceful side-to-side gait, their high spirits, and their luxurious manes. The beauty and poise of these remarkable animals are evident as horsemen put them through their places in a private equestrian demonstration at Wayra Ranch in Peru's Sacred Valley.

The Uros people of Lake Titicaca

Visit the floating reed islands of the Uros in Lake Titicaca

The indigenous Uro people of Lake Titicaca, on the border of Peru and Bolivia, live on more than 40 floating, artificial islands made from Totora reeds that grow naturally on the lake, following much the same lifestyle as their ancestors did centuries ago. Ride a powerboat to visit them on one of the Islas Flotantes de los Uro, and discover their unique folkways.

Visit the Aymara on Taquile Island

The Aymara people welcome you to Taquile Island

Amidst the high elevations of Lake Titicaca, naturally formed Taquile Island is home to the Aymara, an indigenous people known for their hand-woven textiles and traditional way of life, which has changed little from that of their ancestors; they live without electricity or vehicles. A traditional lunch and dances await when you visit an Aymara family at home.

Tambo del Inka – Luxury Collection, Valle Sagrado

Nights 3 and 4

Healing waters high in the Andes

Practicing the art of relaxation and wellness, the Spa at Tambo del Inka believes in the healing power of water, and offers a number of treatment and experiences that call upon its power to soothe and relax, as part of a full range of spa and massage therapies offered. Heated indoor and outdoor pools, whirlpools, Vichy and jet showers, sub-aquatic beds and hydrotherapy treatments are available. Twelve treatment rooms, including VIP rooms for dual treatments, a hair salon and a women-only area provide additional allure for guests.

I believe this has been my favorite trip with Tauck. It was very intense, with lots of traveling, and quite a bit of climbing and walking on uneven surface- considering where we were this was part of it. The guides were fantastic, and in addition to being a wealth of information, they made sure we took care to stay hydrated and to pace ourselves

Most Memorable Moment:

We were so fortunate to be at Machu Picchu on Easter Sunday. The weather was perfect. Even though Sunday is a free day for locals, hardly anybody was there. It was like we had the place to ourselves. What a wonderful experience, breathtaking views and outstanding guides who were so knowledgeable and enthusiastic. Four hours flew by!

This was our 7th Tauck trip and the most challenging. There is no doubt that Machu Pichu and Lake Titicaca are standouts in the world and we feel privileged to have been able to see them. Our weather was outstanding for the entire trip. We prepared for cold and rain and got neither. The altitude was particularly challenging.

Most Memorable Moment:

As we were about to enter Bolivia we were stopped by protesters (or bandits?) 7 times. When they came on the bus it was a bit disconcerting . We were allowed to proceed after a long delay and the payment of money. We were not aware that this was a possibility in Peru. Our tour guides did a fine job negotiating our safe passage to Bolivia.
