Traditional Black Forest dinner

Day 4

Enjoy dinner at a romantic, traditional "Pudelstein" hut in Germany's Black Forest

The Black Forest region of southern Germany has a cultural identity all its own; mostly rural, it comprises much dense forest, rich farmland, and scattered towns and villages. It has its own centuries-old traditions in costume, cuisine, woodcarving and outdoor life... including the rustic surroundings that inspired the "Pudelstein" hut in which you'll enjoy a traditional Black Forest dinner during your visit.

Private tour of Linderhof Palace

Day 6

Enter quirky King Ludwig II's world on a private tour of Linderhof Palace

King Ludwig II, who reigned from 1864 to 1886, may have been Bavaria’s quirkiest king, but he was also its most beloved. He lived in a bit of a fantasy world, dressed up frequently as a medieval king, stayed up all night, and often imagined that he was dining with Louis XV and Marie Antoinette (who were long since deceased). He also built three magnificent castles, including Linderhof Palace in southwest Bavaria. Linderhof was the king’s personal retreat – built in splendid Rococo style, an homage to Versailles and the pre-French Revolution belief in the divine right of kings, for which he was nostalgic. Go inside for a private guided visit to his royal abode... complete with its own Hall of Mirrors and an exact (but smaller) copy of Versailles' Ambassador's Staircase.

We saw a nice blend of culture and architecture. Our Tauck Director was amazing and kept everything very organized.

Black Forest cooking demo

Day 4

Learn secrets from chefs with an interactive Black Forest cooking demonstration

Bavaria and the Black Forest region of Germany have contributed a wide range of local dishes to European cuisine, from spätzle, maultaschen (a filled Swabian pasta-like dish, sort of like Italian ravioli but usually larger), Schwarzwälder Schinken (Black Forest Ham) and grillwurst (spicy sausage made from ground pork and bacon) to brezels, flammkuchen and iconic Schwarzwälder Kirschtorte (Black Forest Cherry Cake). Learn some of the secrets of preparing some of these and other regional specialties at an interactive cooking demonstration with chefs in the Black Forest.
