Experiences of a lifetime

The Maasai call it "Siringitu" which means "the place where the land moves on forever." Here columns of wildebeest plod along centuries-old migration routes; behind them, prides of lions prowl, completing the circle of life... elephants, buffaloes and hippos graze upon the large coarse grasses, while zebras and topi wait their turn...

This is the Serengeti, one of the world's extraordinary safari experiences. In Tanzania, you can find a birdwatcher's paradise in Lake Manyara and Africa's "Garden of Eden" in Ngorongoro Crater. The circle of life continues in the savannas of Kenya, where indescribable vignettes play out before your eyes in Masai Mara National Reserve and Amboseli National Park... Return to a time when the Great Rift Valley held the secrets of the origins of mankind... Observe huge herds roaming the Serengeti, the "lost world" of Ngorongoro Crater, and free-ranging elephants in Amboseli National Park.. soar in a hot air balloon over the Masai Mara at dawn – capped by a champagne breakfast in the bush... view rescued chimpanzees and protected black rhinos at Ol Pejeta Conservancy... attend a special barbecue dinner accompanied by Maasai cultural performance in the Serengeti... visit the William Holden Wildlife Foundation's animal orphanage during a two-night stay at fabled Fairmont Mount Kenya Safari Club... meet the weavers of a local village... travel in exclusive open-top safari vehicles, and stay in luxurious tented camps and safari lodges... Four Seasons Safari Lodge Serengeti

Luxury on the Serengeti plains

Secluded and spacious, the guest rooms of Four Seasons Safari Lodge Serengeti keep you in constant touch with the circle of life on the Serengeti plains. Contemporary African décor features four-poster beds with mosquito netting, local textiles and artwork – all enhanced by modern comforts such as air conditioning and high-speed Internet access. Step outside to your elevated, open-air sundeck with a direct view of the plains and enjoy a private audience with any lions or elephants that might be passing by. And check out the resort's infinity pool... a great place to hang out and watch the wildlife up close, overlooking the animals' own watering hole.

This trip exceeded our high expectations. We saw all "Big Five" animals/many species in beautiful settings and the game drives were well organized and exciting!

If you have never taken a safari we'd recommend you start with Tauck's Elegant South Africa. It is not as demanding physically - lower altitude, 4 days vs 12 "in the bush", game drives not as long. That will whet your appetite for the longer drives (one day 11 hours), dust and very bumpy roads of this classic safari.

Most Memorable Moment:

Having the drivers just stop the vehicle and listen to elephants walk across the wetlands with their babies in tow.

Wonderful adventure! Everything we hoped for and more!! Tour Director was amazing. Organized, communicative, thoughtful and considerate of his guests in all ways. Accommodations were interesting and diverse. We felt like we had a taste of the history, culture, people, and of course the game drives were out of sight!! Exhausting!!

Most Memorable Moment:

Hard to say there were so many. I think the balloon ride and champagne breakfast in the wilds was remarkable.
