Unique Ways to Explore

The word “unique” means “one of a kind, unparalleled, incomparable” – and it’s a great word to use to describe the different kinds of ways we explore the world. We’re always searching for unique destinations – or unique experiences within destinations – or unique ways to explore destinations. In this week’s newsletter we’ve put together a few of our unique experiences and memorable moments, from the tundra of Churchill, Manitoba in BBC Earth’s Arctic Bears, A Year in the Life to a special evening in a Russian palace and an introduction to a French Jazz artist who introduces her music to Tauck guests.

Unique Sightseeing

Monument Valley Flightseeing

Flightseeing is not only a unique way to explore, it’s a unique mode of transportation. And when you have a destination as remote and expansive as Monument Valley in Arizona, flightseeing is a memorable travel experience. Monument Valley Navajo Tribal Park is located on the Navajo Nation – an extraordinary region of colorful sandstone buttes, mesas and spires visited aboard an optional flightseeing trip on America’s Canyonlands and Red Rocks & Painted Canyons family journey. Upon arrival in Monument Valley, a Navajo guide provides a memorable learning experience sharing insights into Navajo Culture.

Unique Evening

Yusupov Palace, St. Petersburg

Memorable moments – they’re unique to each of us, those experiences that tend to create our memories that linger long after our return home. On our small ship cruise, St. Petersburg & the Baltic Sea, one such memorable moment is a special night at Yusupov Palace on the Moika River in St. Petersburg. Yusupov Palace is both an architectural masterpiece and historic (possibly most renowned as the setting of the assassination of Grigori Rasputin) – our short video captures the private, special evening featuring an exclusive ballet performance.

Unique Destination

Arctic Bears, A Year in the Life

We’re delighted to share a vignette exclusively produced for Tauck as part of our Earth Journeys partnership with BBC Earth, nature’s storyteller. Churchill, Manitoba, is known as the “polar bear capital of the world” – but as Neil Nightingale explains, their migration to Churchill and the tundra “is an important time of the year for the bears – but it is only a few short weeks of their lives.” Arctic Bears, A Year in the Life provides a look at what polar bears do during the rest of the year – “because only then can you fully appreciate why the sea ice is so important to them and their future survival.”

Unique French Jazz

Cynthia Queenton

Cynthia Queenton is one of our key travel partners in France, bringing her performance artistry to select Seine river cruises and land tours – this video includes a collection of clips from her shows as well as her personal welcome from Paris to Tauck guests. Cynthia was brought up listening to Ella Fitzgerald, Antônio-Carlos Jobim, Cole Porter and Michel Legrand, and loves the music of the 1950s – making Jazz and Bossa Nova sound more timeless than ever. She is a multi-talented songwriter and recording artist who appears both on stage and television – and is known throughout France as the voice in advertising jingles for many prestigious brands including Chanel, Dior, and Cartier. In addition to Parisian concert halls and festivals, she has performed in venues around the world. Her music is found on both Spotify and Apple Music via her website –

Unique Perspectives

Bow River Float Trip

Travel experiences provide perspectives that define how you remember destinations when traveling – and when you explore via different modes of transportation, even the same destination can take on a whole new meaning. No doubt about it, the different modes of transportation on our Grand Canadian Rockies journey provides unique perspectives from start to finish. There’s travel by ferry for a coastline view of Vancouver and Victoria – then viewing the two destinations from the air by floatplane for an entirely different experience. Riding the rails aboard Via Rail’s The Canadian, from British Columbia to the Canadian Rocky Mountains, takes you through the heart of mountains. Three of the world’s nature-rich national parks are explored by land – and a float trip on the Bow River provides a new perspective on the Rockies with an opportunity to spot unique wildlife, learn local history, and truly feel the breadth of the mountains in the open air.
