Curated for every itinerary, these are the can't-miss moments you'll be telling your friends about long after you return home.

Walk beneath Kyoto's iconic vermilion torii gates as forest paths wind uphill past quiet shrines. Choose a longer hike to sweeping viewpoints or a shorter walk that still immerses you in the shrine's rhythm of color and light.

Ride a section of the Shimanami Kaido, cycling scenic bridges and island coastlines at your own pace. Manual bikes or e-bikes make it easy to go further—or simply enjoy the views.

Experience Kyoto's famed hillside temple during a private visit guided by a Buddhist priest, offering rare insight into the traditions and philosophy that shape this sacred place.

At a restored merchant estate, enjoy a chef's tasting menu rooted in the Seto Inland Sea. Seasonal ingredients unfold course by course in a meal shaped by trust, craft, and quiet elegance.

All hotel accommodations, airport and train station transfers, excursions, select meals, sightseeing, applicable fuel surcharges, and gratuities to Roam Directors, local guides and drivers are included.
International roundtrip airfare, travel protection, and any activities and meals you choose to pursue during free time that are not outlined in the itinerary are not included in the price of the trip.
Free time is a big part of what makes Roam by Tauck feel personal – space to reset, explore independently, or follow whatever catches your eye. To help you start imagining how you'll spend it – whether that's reserving a table at a nearby restaurant, enjoying your hotel's amenities, or simply asking your Roam Director for suggestions – we've outlined the longer stretches of open time built into this journey below. Beyond these dedicated windows, you're always free to personalize your experience by sitting out activities that don't match your mood and enjoying more time your way.
Location indicates where your free time begins. In some cases, that means you'll be back at your hotel, with the freedom to relax or head out on your own.

The activity level of this tour is 4. Most days require — or offer the option to engage in — longer or more strenuous walking (often 4+ miles or 8,000+ steps), extended standing, or varied terrain such as hills, sand, or cobblestones. Guests should be comfortable crouching to climb into and out of more rugged vehicles or small planes frequently. Some days may also include active excursions like biking, kayaking, horseback riding, or water sports. While less demanding alternatives may be available, the core experience typically involves sustained physical effort and is best suited to guests comfortable with a consistently active pace.
U.S. citizens need a passport valid for six months beyond the end of the trip: no visa is required for entry into Japan. Non-U.S. citizens should check with an embassy or consulate of Japan to determine what travel documentation are required for entry.
