Pre tour suggestions for Athens

in Treasures of the Aegean
We are scheduled for the Treasures of the Agean leaving Sept.11. Have not heard otherwise, so am supposing it will be a go. Plan to arrive in Athens a day early. Any suggestions of what to explore that is not covered by Tauck on the tour?
Suggestions from Tauck are appreciated as well as another traveler.

    Looks like the relatively new (4 - 5 years) museum next to the Acropolis is not included in your tour and that is well worth seeing. It is also fun to spend a bit of time wandering through the Plaka - a bit commercial but there are some decent restaurants.
