I believe it's pills you take for typhoid. At least thats what i took. My philosophy is better safe than sorry and I definitely would not want to get sick there. I just got back from this trip last Friday, the 26th and am happy to answer any questions you have.
Visited my travel doctor yesterday to update my vaccinations. He gave me a choice between a typhoid shot and pills, saying that the vaccination by shot lasts 2-3 years and the one by pill lasts 4-5 years. However, he also said I didn't need it for Africa (I am also going to India). You should be able to get guidance from whomever would provide the vaccination.
