need for malaria in panama

in The Panama Canal & Costa Rica
We are going on the panama canal and Costa Rica cruise in Feb. 2014. Are malaria pills needed since the tour visits the Darien Province. I can't figure out the CDC site for recommendation.

    Consult your doctor, but honestly should not be needed. Never saw or was bitten by a mosquito at all on that trip. Even in the middle of Panama in the rainforest, or in the Darien. This is a wonderful trip and great time on the boat too. Loved the small cruise ship experience. Have a wonderful time!
