My daughter and I are on the August 10 trip from Amsterdam to Basel, and spending one extra day in Basel. Are ATM's plentiful in Basel? can Euros be used there? or is it easier to put everything on a credit card?

    There are ATMs everywhere in Basel. Some merchants might accept euro but at a terrible exchange. Use credit card (many credit cards have a 3% charge for foreign transactions) or get cash at ATM.

    Try to use a credit card with no foreign transaction fee. My Capitol One card does not currently charge that fee.

    You will enjoy this trip!!! We did it a few years ago.

    You don't want too many Swiss Franks because it is the only stop you will use them. I used Capitol One with no fees. I was only there the one day and all I bought was lunch. I believe.
