WOW! This was the trip of a lifetime.

We are still suffering from jet lag from our return from the February 10th trip, but wanted to share our fabulous experience with anyone considering or already signed up for Northern India and Nepal. First, this is not a trip for "sissies." It is fast paced, arduous and parts are covered by SUVs over roads that are rough and tumble to say the least. That said, it was worth every minute to be able to experience countries that are deeply complex, multilayered and brimming with history. You won't find a more hospitable people anywhere. The hotels and camps were the best, the service beyond our imaginations. The guides were knowledgable experts as one would expect from Tauck. Our tour director was a gem having made allowances for everything from our ease of travel between points, to menu choices which slowly introduced our Western palates to Indian cuisine. The trips to the tiger reserves in the SUVs were accompanied by the "potty van" so the ladies would have bathroom facilities as we traveled through remote areas. It was a big hit! We experienced everything from the bustling chaos of Delhi to cosmopolitan Mumbai. In between we saw the majesty of the Himalayas, were immersed in the culture of Kathmandu, the splendor of the Taj Mahal and saw a beautiful tiger our first day in the reserves. We cooked Indian food with the executive chef at Banjaar Tola. If you have been hesitant to visit India or Nepal and are in good physical health, this tour will enlighten your senses and even maybe your soul. Hopefully, you will fall in love with India and Nepal as we did. Thank you Tauck!

  • Hello LankyLady!

Thank you so much for your post! I was anxiously awaiting for someone to do this as I am leaving on the March 10th trip. If you see this post before the 8th, what is the weather like in the Parks? Is it chilly in the mornings?
Glad you had a great time!
  • Sorry I missed you before you left. Please share your thoughts when you return. Hope you were warm enough in the parks. For others considering the trip, the camps provide hot water bottles and blankets for the early morning drives.

How absolutely pukka! But only as one would expect, really. ;)

    Cheers,

  • To: Lankylady,
Your comments were very much appreciated. We are planning this trip for the 21st of Jan 2014.
We are older seniors in our 80's, travel alot and quite active. Have done many safari's in Africa,
so know the routine, having the potty car sounds great. Weather in Jan and early Feb should be a little
colder. Any further advice would be appreciated. HandJ
  • Hi H and J,
Sounds like you are seasoned travelers so there really isn't any additional advice I can offer. The most challenging part of the trip is the drives on the back roads. It is very bumpy and different from our safari experience in Africa... bumpier! Just hang on and know that Tauck's tour directors are aware of everyone's needs and will take good care of you. Our director certainly did for us. The drives, although uncomfortable at times, are part of the diverse "textures" of India. Hope you have a great trip.
