Evening Dress Attire at Hotels In Ireland?

We are booked on our 1st Tauck tour for Ireland. Do we need dressy evening attire for Dinner meals at the restaurants in the Hotels? Will Hubby need a SportCoat or Dinner jacket?

    Hi there,

You can find information on clothing in the Need to Know section of the Best of Ireland Itinerary page. Scroll down, and expand the Need to Know section; the section on Clothing and Packing should be marked as such.

I've reproduced the section answering your question here:

In Europe, especially in finer restaurants, it is generally customary to dress somewhat formally. Slacks or a dress for women and a jacket and tie for men are acceptable dining attire, although it is not required. It is advisable to avoid wearing jeans, sneakers or shorts for dinner. You may also wish to dress up a bit for the welcome reception and the farewell dinner, but by all means be comfortable.

    Hope this helps!

    Best,
    Tim

No one our trip brought a sportcoat or an evening dress and it was really never an issue. Although many of the restaurants are elegant, as long as a collard shirt (for the men) was worn, their attire was perfectly acceptable. It really depends on what your personal preference is here. Many times we were all too tired to really fuss for dinner and perhaps just changed a top or added a nice scarf to dress up what we had on that day--provided it was not jeans. Most of the time you will be able to choose the time for your dinner reservations so if you don't mind eating late you can fuss with your clothes.
