Restaurant Suggestions in Prague

We are on the Oct. 18th Prague to Budapest trip. We are arriving a couple of days before hand. Any recomendations for restaurants?

  • Prague is a tourist's heaven or nightmare depending on your point of view. Every street within walking distance of your hotel, (Prague Marriott), has a variety of restaurants with most offering a Czech menu as well as at least one other cuisine. Italian seems to be the most popular. The nightmare aspect is the number of people crowding into all the restaurants. We just returned from the same trip you are going on so the shoulder season is in full swing and so are the top restaurants. Our two favorites were the Cafe Imperial, (located in the Imperial Hotel) and the Ristorante Longiano which is just up the street from the Cafe Imperial. Both are but a 5 minute walk from the Marriott. Each restaurant offers a different style. The Cafe Imperial is pure art deco and upscale as far as food preparation and service. Prices are reasonable and you should expect to spend upwards of $50-$100 depending on whether you have wine with dinner. But this place is not to be missed and if you only have one dinner out, this is the one. By the way, the portions are reasonably sized so it would not be unusual to share a main course. Just look around and see what others are having and you will get a good idea of what to order. There is a bread charge which is the only time we encountered this in Prague.
The Ristorante Longiano is much smaller and while the servers smile nicely, (you will find that the Czech's don't do too much smiling even when you are buying something from them), they don't really understand English very well. The portions are huge, (Lasagna enough for two easily), the food is great, (also had chicken with eggplant and mozzarella cheese, (so good).
Hope this reaches you prior to your trip. Have a great time.
  • Try Celeste Restaurant for a amazing roof-top view of the city. And of course great food too. You can also try the "U Modré růže" (In the Blue Rose). It has a different aura attached to it. I loved both the places.
