Dining

I am planning on taking this trip next spring and spending extra days with friends who live in Shanghai. My problem is I do not care for Asian food. I believe this will not be a problem on the tour for dinner at the large hotels, but what about lunches and "special" dinners? Are there any alternatives to local food? Thanks.
