  • Hello lross1,

I hope you are excited about your trip. I will try my best to answer all your questions.

    Immunizations
Some of the countries visited on this itinerary may require travelers to provide proof of vaccination against certain diseases in order to enter the country. These requirements are subject to frequent change as outbreaks occur and subside in different areas, and it is therefore crucial that you obtain the very latest information on entry requirements as you prepare for your journey.

For the most current information, please consult the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) at http://wwwnc.cdc.gov/travel/destinations/list.htm and the World Health Organization (WHO) at http://www.who.int/ith/en/. It may also be advisable to visit the web sites for the embassies of the countries you will be visiting. Besides providing details on vaccination requirements, these sites can also provide information on vaccinations that may be recommended (but aren’t required) and other potential health issues for which no vaccines are available.

Any decisions relating to your health, of course, should not be based solely on information provided by a web site. It is critically important that you consult with your personal physician prior to your journey to obtain any required vaccinations and to review any optional recommendations offered by the CDC or other sources. Please be sure to discuss your journey with your physician at least four to six weeks in advance of your departure, as certain vaccinations take time to become fully effective. Also, be certain to ask your physician for proof of any vaccinations you receive, and to
pack this proof along with your other travel documents in your carry-on luggage (not in your checked luggage).

    Weather
East Africa Truly a year-round destination, the East African climate features warm, bright days. The average temperature in March for the the Serengeti and Nairobi is approx. 80 degrees. You can check www.weather.com for weather forecasts before your departure.

    Clothing
This is a casual tour. Comfortable and casual clothing is recommended while on this itinerary. For daytime and evening wear, including the Welcome and Farewell receptions and dinners, casual dress is recommended. Formal attire is not required. Generally, during the day, lightweight cotton shirts, skirts, pants, and shorts are sufficient. A light jacket, fleece, or windbreaker, as well as layers of clothing are suggested, for cooler temperatures during early morning game drives and evenings.

While on safari it is recommended you wear natural earth-colored clothing, such as khakis, tans, browns, and greens, as well as comfortable walking shoes or sneakers. It is also a good idea to bring a swimsuit, hat, sunscreen, sunglasses, and lip protection. Game drives can be dusty, so wear something that can be washed while on tour. Dry cleaning service is not available; however, the hotels and lodges we stay in throughout the safari portion of our itinerary, have valet laundry and pressing available for an additional charge.

    Hope this helps!

  • Hi,
We are on the Mar 9th with our friends from NY.
We all went to local health dept to get immunizations: yellow fever, polio booster, hep A (food borne one?), tablets for anti maleria and also typhoid fever (not required, but recommended) and tetnus vaccine.
I also sent visa applications to each embassy in DC and our friends "walked" theirs into consulate in Manhattan. I was impressed with efficiency. All told a little less than a month to get it all done.
Clothing-wise--casual! Go to Tauck forums on Africa...Leo wrote extensively about his Jan 2012 trip and he also recommends another blog (2009)Tauck traveler. Much good information from both blogs.
