packing tips

We are going on the Peru/Boliva Incas trip leaving Sept 28 and wondered if there are any specific packing tips that those who have been can recommend. Do you need actual hiking shoes or are sneakers okay , for example, and how about hiking poles that collapse? Any dressier clothing? Many thanks, Nancy G
