What to do/see in Malta

We have an extra day in Malta before our Tauck tour starts (August 2012) - any suggestions on what to see that won't be on the tour?

We just returned from this trip, having the Monte Carlo to Malta itinerary. The scenery is breathtaking from start to finish.

In Malta, consider watching the wide-screen movie "The Malta Experience," which gives you a historical perspective of the country, and exposure to its culture. Most of us in our group watched it even though on the previous day we had been on the tour and had the benefit of the local guide overview. It is also air conditioned whereas most other attractions are not.

Then I'd highly recommend the Grand Master's Palace State Rooms and Armoury. It's quite beautiful inside and resplendent with murals and rows of knights in armor. Not knowing your interests, also consider the National War Museum which has extensive exhibits on Malta's role in WWI and II. As Malta was the most heavily bombed country during WWII, there's a lot to read and no audio devices.

All of these locations are within walking distance of the hotel. Be sure to go to St. John's Co-Cathedral on the tour as it is a highlight. We stayed an additional two days in Malta and got over to the island of Gozo where the Azure Window, a breathtaking natural rock formation that juts into the sea (one of the best photos of the trip), and the Ggantija Temples are must-sees.

Thanks so much!! Any ideas for an extra day in Nice?

    Hi,

For that extra day in Nice, I'd like to offer a few suggestions - The Chagall Museum, visiting one or more of the villages outside of Nice, such as Eze, St. Paul de Vence, Antibes. If you don't have a car at your disposal, the hotel Concierge could easily arrange a driver or tour to visit one if not more of the lovely villages. Enjoy!
