Arriving on the 02/06/2017 and looking for people to go out to dinner with me in Delhi.

Hello,
I'm travelling solo and have heard its best to be with other people at night in Delhi. On the 6th and 7th I would like to try restaurants outside the hotel. The rest of the dinners are paid for already so I thought it would be fun to try somthing different on the 6th and 7th. Anyone interested?

I am going on the February 16th Portrait of India tour...I am very excited as I am sure you are as well. I have traveled solo with Tauck and having dinner companions on 'open' nights is not really an issue. It is a hard thing to prearrange and it is not really necessary. Invariably you will meet your group and develop relationships with some/many. I have been on 3 Tauck trips and finding dining -mates was not an issue. The group seemed to meld together and become inclusive in whole or in large part. Do not worry about open dinners or free time activities. However if you feel uncomfortable or excluded or whatever, you should discuss this privately with your tour guide. Enjoy your trip and be open to meeting new people! A smile and good attitude goes a long way!!

However you may want to research restaurant options or free time activities so that you are prepared. To be sure, your TD will also have suggestions and the tour activities may change too so it may be difficult to prearrange an activity once the Tauck tour begins. On my 1st trip, I booked a private tour for myself for one of my pre-tour days. While at the airport, waiting for the Tauck transport to the hotel, I met 2 lovely couples. Ultimately they joined me on my private tour! For my trip to India, I am staying on in Mumbai for 2 days and have arranged a private guide to explore the area outside of the city.

We will compare notes upon our return. Safe and fun travels!

  • Hi Laura, please be sure to only go out to eat if you find others to go with. I would consider it too dangerous for a female to be out alone at night in Delhi. You see very few women on the streets of Delhi, they are kept out of sight in the home.
  • I agree with British, Laura. I have to say that being a stranger in a city like Delhi and not knowing the ropes/culture would not be my first choice even though I am a bloke. My memories of this tour are that the hotel has super and varied menues - indeed different internal cuisines and restaurants. The food is excellent with the best ingredients.
Otherwise have no fears about travelling alone with Tauck. The groups are so friendly and supportive that by the end of the tour you will be pleased to get some time on your own. Enjoy this wonderful experience.

  • We, too, arrived early and took one of the non-Tauck nights to experience The Spice Route Restaurant (fabulous)! Despite what others say, I really think you can do this as a single, if it comes down to that. The hotel should get a taxi for you to go to a restaurant, and, if it worked the same way as it did for us, the driver will wait around until you are ready to return. The restaurant will summon him to collect you, and you will pay a final tab when you return to your hotel. There is really no need for you to wander about looking for a cab. If you want to meet others, perhaps let the concierge know you are looking for fellow Tauck guests with whom you would like to share a dinner out. The service in India at the Tauck hotels is beyond exceptional.
  • Thanks for the support. I'm so excited. Happy Journeys,
    Laura
  • Laura,
I just arrived at the hotel in Delhi. I too am traveling solo with Tauck.
Would be happy to join you for dinner tonight February 8. I have been told that Bukhara is a great restaurant and also the Imperial Hotel I guess had some good ones.
If you would like to have dinner together, please let me know and let me know what time you're thinking about. Thanks,
    Diane
  • I just noticed that you were interested in the six on the seventh. I don't know if you are still here or on a different tour .
