2008 Itinerary


Day 1 – Sunny El Paso, Texas
El Paso is your gateway to this enchanting New Mexico travel adventure. Tour departs: 3:00 p.m. from El Paso International Airport. Enjoy a tour of the place that Texans call Sun City, and attend a fascinating presentation on the bats of Carlsbad Caverns, given by a RAVEN-series conservationist who has dedicated his life to the preservation of nature's endangered species. Your week of New Mexico travel kicks off with a private evening at the El Paso Museum of Art, a fine arts museum housing more than 5,000 works of art from around the world; enjoy a welcome cocktail party and dinner.

Day 2 – The amazing bats of the Caverns of Carlsbad
Your New Mexico travel adventure begins with a visit to the limestone caves of Carlsbad Caverns National Park. As you explore this amazing subterranean world, you’ll discover why humorist Will Rogers called Carlsbad Caverns “the Grand Canyon with a roof on it.” After lunch on a cruise along the Pecos River, head out across the Chihuahuan Desert to your mountain casino resort.

Day 3 – White Sands and a touch of resort pleasure
Visit the famous White Sands National Monument prior to spending the rest of the day at leisure enjoying all the many amenities and activities offered at your lovely resort. Play a game of golf, go horseback riding, shoot some skeet or make a "donation" at the casino.

Day 4 – Amazing Albuquerque, a New Mexico travel highlight
Lying at the foot of spectacular Sandia Peak, Albuquerque is highlight of any New Mexico travel experience. Explore the city's historic, 300-year-old Old Town, then spend the remainder of the day as you please at your resort.

Day 5 – The many cultures of Santa Fe
As the crossroads of the historic Southwest, Santa Fe’s unique culture and ambiance are a blend of Spanish, Native American and Old West influences. A walking tour of Santa Fe's historic center discovers this diverse cultural mix – and explores the secrets of Southwestern cuisine at a lunch highlighting the diverse cultures.

Day 6 – Ancient ruins and artistic creativity in Taos
With the scenic beauty of its contrasting forests and deserts, Taos has attracted a thriving and talented community of artists and craftspersons. At Taos Pueblo, A UNESCO World Heritage Site, discover a culture that has inhabited these adobe structures for nearly a thousand years.

Day 7 – Georgia O’Keeffe’s Southwest
A private morning visit to the Georgia O’Keeffe Museum reveals the sensuous landscapes and other works by this renowned 20th-century artist who so loved this part of the Southwest that she made it her home later in life. Then explore Bandelier National Monument, with its ruins of ancient cliff houses and pueblos – a special highlight of Tauck's New Mexico travel experience. Please join us for a farewell cocktail reception and dinner this evening.

Day 8 – Journey Home
Your New Mexico travel ends at 8:15 a.m. at Albuquerque International Sunport. Allow a minimum of 2 hours for your flight check-in. People who are leaving at other times should secure their own transportation to the airport.
