2008 Itinerary


Day 1: Aloha Honolulu
Tauck's Hawaii vacation package begins at The Royal Hawaiian. A transfer is included from the Honolulu International Airport to your extraordinary resort, The Royal Hawaiian, set on the white sand shores of Waikiki Beach. Enjoy dinner in The Surf Room, a Waikiki legend in its own right.

Day 2: Memories of Pearl Harbor & Honolulu sites
Visit the USS Arizona Memorial at Pearl Harbor, a tribute to the military personnel who were killed in the December 7, 1941 attack, called the Day of Infamy. Further Honolulu sightseeing includes Iolani Palace, Washington Place, and the sumptuous state capitol building. Join us tonight for a reception welcoming you to our ultimate Hawaii vacation package.

Day 3: A day on Oahu and a night at the museum
Kick off the day on Waikiki when you meet a "beach boy" who will "talk-story" for you, then take a ride in a traditional outrigger canoe. Then spend some time on your own, maybe walking up Diamond Head for a bird’s-eye view of Waikiki. In the evening, attend an event exclusively for Tauck guests – a private night at the Bishop Museum, enjoying craft demonstrations, traditional entertainment, cocktails, and dinner amidst the relics of one of the world's finest anthropological museums.

Day 4: Kauai calls and Kilohana answers
Fly to the Garden Isle of Kauai, whose lush landscapes featuring orchids, hibiscus and plumeria are often used as a setting for Hollywood films depicting tropical paradise. A visit to the beautifully restored Kilohana sugar plantation -- home to lovely gardens, historic cottages and Kauai's grandest 20th-century mansion -- takes you back to a simpler time; have lunch and tour the 35-acre estate by wagon. See Spouting Horn, a fascinating volcanic blowhole, en route to your beachfront resort on renowned Poipu Beach.

Day 5: Ecological discoveries and leisure time on Kauai
Your Hawaii vacation package continues with a RAVEN-series lecture on the ecology of the Hawaiian Archipelago. The rest of the day is yours – you may want to swim, snorkel, sunbathe, spot Poipu Beach's abundant marine life from monk seals to green sea turtles, or simply enjoy all your resort has to offer.

Day 6: Explore Maui, the "Valley Isle"
Fly to Maui, named for an ancient god. Travel through the mist-shrouded Iao Valley and visit the historic port of Lahaina, an old whaling center and former island capital, with time to explore as you please. Ocean-view rooms offering Pacific vistas await at your resort home for the next three nights, set amidst 40 lush acres on Kaanapali Beach.

Day 7: Maui action & luau
During your free day, perhaps take a whale watch cruise, go scuba diving, take a tennis lesson from a pro, or wander through Lahaina’s art galleries. In the evening, learn about Hawaiian culture at a luau, featuring traditional food, music, and dance amidst tiki torches and palm trees.

Day 8: Impressive Mount Haleakala
Tauck's Hawaii vacation package highlights include a journey to the 10,023-foot-high rim of Mount Haleakala, the world’s largest dormant volcano and a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. The crater is more than seven miles across, and hosts two endangered species, the nene (Hawaiian wild goose), and the silversword, a specially adapted plant. Learn about island agriculture as you descend through upcountry farmland and return to your beachfront resort for an evening at leisure.

Day 9: Hawaii Volcanoes National Park
Fly to the Big Island of Hawaii, and explore Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It showcases Mauna Loa, the most massive mountain on earth, and Kilauea, which has been erupting almost continually since 1983 producing rivers of fiery lava. Travel along the stunning Hamakua coast to your resort, nestled into the bluffs above the white sands of beautiful Hapuna Beach – voted "number one beach in America" by Conde Nast Traveler.

Day 10: Big Island relaxation
Spend the day as you please. As a guest of the Hapuna Beach Prince Hotel you also can take advantage of the amenities at its sister property, the Mauna Kea Beach Hotel – if you wish, indulge in optional activities such as a round of golf on its extraordinary 18-hole championship Robert Trent Jones course, a world-class spa treatment, or a thrilling helicopter flightseeing excursion over the Big Island's valleys and volcanoes.

Day 11: Traditional coffee farm
Visit the Kona Coffee Living History Farm, a working seven-acre coffee and macadamia nut farm established in 1900 that illustrates traditional coffee farming and the lifestyles of its pioneering Japanese growers. Enjoy free time in the harborside town of Kailua-Kona, explore the Kona Coast as you wish, and share experiences with your fellow travelers at tonight's farewell reception and dinner.

Day 12: Mahalo Hawaii
Your Hawaiian vacation package ends on the Big Island. Departure times vary, but a transfer is included from the Hapuna Beach Prince Hotel to Kona International Airport. Allow a minimum of two hours for departure flight check-in at the airport.
