2008 Itinerary


Day 1 – Arrive Liberia, Costa Rica
Tour begins: Hilton Papagayo Resort at 6:00 PM. When you arrive, there’s an included transfer from Liberia Airport to your resort on the Gulf of Papagayo. Join us and meet new friends who will share this Costa Rica vacation with you at our welcome reception and dinner tonight.
Meals: Dinner

Day 2 – Dive into a day of fun at Hacienda Guachapelin
A morning of fun awaits your family at Hacienda Guachapelin on the slopes of Rincon Vieja Volcano. Your choices of included activities offered at this working hacienda (ranch) include horseback riding, an exciting river-tubing adventure and volcanically heated mud pools; your time at Hilton Papagayo Resort will be a highlight of your Costa Rica vacation! Spend the afternoon as you please back at your oceanfront resort.

Day 3 – Along the Pan American Highway to a Sky Tram at Arenal
Drive along part of the Pan American Highway – one of the world's longest roads – to enjoy a lake cruise on Lake Arenal. Then catch a bird's-eye view of one of the world's most active volcanoes, Arenal Volcano, on a memorable ride aboard a sky tram. Continue on to Tilajari Resort for two nights at a resort in a private reserve.

Day 4 – River Rafting and more at Tilajari ResortGiant Iguana
Board a raft and float through the jungle today on another memorable moment in your family's Costa Rica vacation. An expert naturalist will help you try to spot giant iguanas, sloths, monkeys – maybe even crocodiles – that live along the Penas Blancas River. You'll also meet a local family who has lived on the river for generations. Return to your jungle resort to enjoy a host of fun activities.

Day 5 – From a pineapple farm to a jungle lodge
Today, a journey from the plantations and villages of Costa Rica's interior to its Caribbean coast takes you to the Finca Corsicana pineapple farm, where a local guide shows you the workings of this modern organic farm from a specially built vehicle. A bumpy drive over unpaved roads brings you to coastal Tortuguero National Park and your home for the next two nights, a riverfront lodge set on a network of jungle canals. Keep an eye out for turtles, monkeys and toucans!

Day 6 – Meet green sea turtles at Tortuguero National Park
Explore by land and boat today, cruising the jungle canals with naturalists to look for wildlife, and visiting a local village. Tortuguero is one of the world’s largest nesting sites for green sea turtles. If your Costa Rica vacation takes place in summer, you’ll have a late-night or early-morning chance to see them make their way up the beach from the water to dig their nests in the sand, leaving tractor-tread trails behind them.

Day 7 – Check out a coffee plantation and see San José
As your Costa Rica vacation draws to a close, return to San José by private air charter today. Learn everything you ever wanted to know about coffee beans – and one of Costa Rica's most important products – at a working coffee plantation. Spend some time exploring San José, and join us for a farewell reception and dinner tonight.

Lodging: Costa Rica Marriott Hotel, San José, Costa Rica

Day 8 – Adios, Costa Rica
Tour ends: San José. A transfer is included from the Costa Rica Marriott Hotel to Juan Santamaría International Airport. Inquire at time of booking about extending your family vacation with additional nights in San José.
