    Kathmandu... the very name of this Nepalese city conjures up images of one of the most exotic regions on Earth. Your stay in Kathmandu with Tauck takes you to Pashupatinath Temple on the bank of the sacred Bagmati River, one of the holiest of all Hindu temples... a flightseeing adventure above the alpine landscapes of Mount Everest... a tour of Durbar Square, where ancient temples and pagodas are clustered around the old royal palace... a visit to Kasthamandap, the namesake of Kathmandu, said to be built from a single mythical tree... a rickshaw ride through the marketplace of Thamel ... and a visit to Kopan Monastery, where you'll take your shoes off and join the monks before traveling to the colossal stupa of Boudhanath, encircled by images of Buddha and hundreds of prayer wheels.

    A timeless monument to love in Agra

    You could say that India's Taj Mahal is so famous that it needs no introduction… but it's so compelling a destination that it's hard not to talk about it. Considered the greatest achievement of Indo-Islamic architecture, this exquisite, domed, white marble mausoleum complex in Agra was commissioned in 1632 and completed two decades later as the tomb and memorial of Mumtaz Mahal, the favorite wife of the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan. Constructed at a cost that would be upwards of USD $825 million today, it ranks among history's most expensive declarations of love. Along with touring it with a local guide, you'll also see it from your hotel room!

    The Indian town of Madya Pradesh is home to what today is known as the Khajuraho Group of Monuments. This UNESCO World Heritage Site, which you'll visit with Tauck, comprises a famous group of Hindu, Jain and Buddhist temples built between the 10th and 11th centuries by the Chandela Rajput Dynasty, praised by UNESCO for striking a perfect balance between architecture and sculpture... and famous both for their nagara-style symbolism, and the provocative nature of the statuary decorating many of the temples. Of the 85 or so temples that historians believed once stood in this area, only 25 have survived the ravages of time.

    The stunning city of Jaipur, India, is home to such highlights as the City Palace Museum, the Jantar Mantar Observatory, the massive gateways and pillared pavilions inside Amber Fort, and the magnificent domes and massive ramparts of Amber Palace.
