Readers and editors of magazines like Travel + Leisure, Travel Weekly, and National Geographic Traveler have continuously voted our river cruises as some of the best in the world. These magazines give awards based on the high standards and prestige of the industry, and often rank Tauck as among the top. Here are some descriptions of the awards our river cruises have received.
World’s Best Awards – Travel + Leisure
2009 – 2014 “World’s Best River Cruise Lines” (ranked #1 in 2011, 2013, 2014)
2011 – 2012 “World’s Best River Cruise Line for Families”
The World’s Best Awards from Travel + Leisure are selected by the magazine’s readers. Every year, T+L holds a survey for readers to fill out on their main website. The survey remains open until April. Winners are announced in the August/September issues of Travel + Leisure. These awards are given in categories such as hotels, resorts, spas, cruises, airlines, travel companies, tour operators, cities, islands, family travel, and more.

The Magellan Awards, given by Travel Weekly, honor the best in travel. The winners are chosen by a judging panel consisting of some of the best travel industry professionals in the world. Winners are selected and notified in late August and are published in a Fall issue of Travel Weekly. The Magellan Awards are given in three levels – Bronze, Silver, and Gold – and are recognized throughout an array of categories, including hotels and resorts, travel destinations, cruise lines, online travel services, airlines and airports, travel agents and agencies, tour operators and car rental companies.
Editor’s Choice Awards – CruiseReport.com
2012 – “Best Luxury River Cruise Line”
The Editor’s Choice Awards are given by the editors of CruiseReport.com. CruiseReport.com is an online guide for finding the best cruise trips. Winners are chosen based on unbiased reviews that are conducted each year by CruiseReport.com staff members. In 2012, the editors of CruiseReport.com traveled over 39,000 miles to gather information to make their award decisions. These awards are given in categories such as Best Adventure Cruise Line, Best Suite Accommodations, Best Shore Excursions, Best Service, and Best Luxury Cruise Line, among many others.
“50 Tours of a Lifetime” – National Geographic Traveler
2009 – “50 Tours of a Lifetime” Award (Grand European River Cruise)
National Geographic Traveler magazine hosts an annual “50 Tours of a Lifetime” awards feature. These awards are given to tours designed for experience, immersion, sustainability, and cultural connection. Awarded by the magazine's editorial team, they are released every April. The editors look for tours that offer a “short but deep dive into far-flung cultures and transformative experiences.” This award is given to specific tours in a variety of categories, including volunteer, adventure, family, and small-ship/riverboat cruises.
WAVE Awards – TravelAge West
2009 – “Best New River Boat” (ms Swiss Sapphire)
TravelAge West, a magazine dedicated to travel agents in the Western United States, hosts an annual awards ceremony known as the WAVE Awards. The WAVE Awards are selected by the magazine’s readers, who are primarily travel agents from along the West Coast. The magazine’s editors gather a selection of nominees from categories such as airlines, cruise lines, hotel and resorts, destinations, tour operators, and rail lines, and host an online poll for readers to select their favorites in each category. The poll lasts through the month of April, and winners of each category as well as the nominees from each category are published on TravelAge West’s website as well as in a special edition June issue of the print magazine. In 2012, over 125 travel companies were honored across 49 award categories.
