Tauck Expands In Egypt
Following Sold-Out Debut In 2006
Leading Tour Operator Adds New Itinerary,
Increases Departures By 55%
NORWALK, CT (June 27, 2006) A year after launching its first-ever itinerary to Egypt, and after exceeding the trip’s 2006 passenger goal by more than 50%, Tauck World Discovery is adding a second itinerary in the region and boosting its published departure dates there by 55%.
“Our launch in Egypt was a phenomenal success by any measure,” said Tauck President/CEO Robin Tauck. “We surpassed our sales goals in dramatic fashion, and we established strong ties with an exclusive network of partners and suppliers. Most importantly, we provided our guests with an incredible experience in one of the world’s most amazing destinations – the post-trip feedback and responses from our guests were fantastic.”
Tauck has followed up on last year’s success with the addition of a new “Egypt & Jordan: Timeless Treasures, Ancient Lands” package (from $4,990), which combines the wonders of ancient Egyptian civilization with the Biblical and cultural treasures of Jordan. The 14-day itinerary features nine days in Egypt, including a three-night Nile River cruise, plus five days in Jordan.
The Egypt & Jordan itinerary begins outside of Cairo in the shadow of the Pyramids, before heading south to Abu Simbel and the Aswan High Dam. The route next turns northward as Tauck’s guests visit famous sites along the River Nile during a three-day luxury cruise aboard the elegant Nile Adventurer. Then it’s on to the Valley of the Kings and the Valley of the Queens before returning to Cairo and boarding a quick flight to Jordan. There, guests will visit museums and ancient fortresses in Amman, Biblical sites and archeological treasures along the Jordan River, and travel the 5,000 year-old Kings’ Highway en route to the Dead Sea.
Throughout the trip, Tauck guests will enjoy an in-depth exploration of the region’s world-renowned historic and cultural sites. In Egypt, they’ll visit all the most famous sites, from the Pyramids and the Sphinx to Luxor, Karnak, and King Tut’s legendary tomb. They’ll also visit equally compelling temples, including the temples of Ramesses II and Queen Nefertari, the Philae Temple, and the Temple of Horus. Guests will also experience the intriguing city of Cairo, visiting synagogues, Roman ruins, mosques, tombs and shopping bazaars. Licensed, university-trained Egyptologists will be on-hand to bring Egypt’s history and traditions to life, and a visit to the acclaimed Egyptian Museum in Cairo will provide a rich context in which to better appreciate the many historic sites visited throughout the journey.
In Jordan, guests will travel to Bethany Beyond the Jordan, identified as the place where Jesus was baptized by John the Baptist. They’ll view portions of the Dead Sea Scrolls and explore the Citadel, the Roman Temple of Hercules and more in Amman. They’ll travel by horse-drawn cart through a narrow passage between towering sandstone walls to discover the archeological wonders of the ancient city of Petra. Finally, their journey will conclude at a relaxing resort and spa on the shores of the Dead Sea.
Tauck has arranged for an array of engaging, authentic local experiences for its guests throughout the trip, including a felucca ride on the Nile, a private visit with a Bedouin family at their home near Petra, traditional Egyptian and Jordanian entertainment and cuisine – even a camel ride in the shadow of the Pyramids.
Guests will also enjoy world-class accommodations, including Pyramid-view rooms at the luxurious Oberoi Mena House, the Four Seasons Hotel Cairo on the Nile’s west bank, Le Meridien Luxor, the Movenpick Resort Petra, and three nights aboard the five-star, 325-foot Nile Adventurer. Included along with all accommodations are most meals, all ground transportation and airport transfers, all entertainment, admission to all museums and historic sites, taxes, most gratuities, and more.
Tauck will offer departures of “Egypt & Jordan: Timeless Treasures, Ancient Lands” in all months except June and July. The company will also offer its “Egypt: Jewels Along The Nile” itinerary (11-days, from $4,290) throughout 2007, with departures during the same months. As with the Egypt & Jordan itinerary, “Egypt: Jewels Along The Nile” includes a three-day cruise aboard the Nile Adventurer, an in-depth exposure to the history and culture of Egypt, and visits to the country’s most famous ancient sites.
