Tauck Adds Two New River Cruises For 2015
Travel + Leisure’s “World’s Best River Cruise Line” Announces Itineraries, Dates and Pricing as it Opens 2015 River Cruises for Booking
NORWALK, CT (March 12, 2014) Tauck has unveiled its 2015 portfolio of European river cruises, and the Connecticut-based company is adding a new 23-day, three-country itinerary and a new Tauck Bridges family cruise along the Rhine to its roster. Tauck’s full collection of 19 river cruises for 2015 is now listed on the company’s website, complete with departure dates and pricing, and all cruises are currently open for booking.
While Tauck still has limited availability on some 2014 river cruise departures, Tauck CEO Dan Mahar notes that travelers will enjoy a far wider selection of dates, itineraries and cabin classes if they look to 2015 – and if they move quickly. “Demand for our river cruises has been phenomenal, and it shows no sign of slowing down for next year,” said Mahar. “Even though we’ve continued to boost capacity, the popularity of our cruises is growing at an equal or even greater pace. There’s no question that right now is the very best time for travelers to make their 2015 river cruise plans with Tauck.”
Among the river cruises that Tauck guests can choose from for next year is the company’s new 23-day “Belle Epoch: London to Monte-Carlo.” The itinerary begins with an included two-night stay at London’s iconic The Savoy, highlighted by guided sightseeing in the British capital and a Tauck-exclusive presentation by Celia Sandys, Winston Churchill’s granddaughter and his acclaimed biographer. Guests then travel beneath the English Channel to board Tauck’s ms Swiss Sapphire for a nine-night cruise along the Seine that includes a visit to the D-Day Beaches of Normandy, a tour of Monet’s home and gardens in Giverny, tastings of locally produced cheese, chocolate and Calvados, a dinner in an elegant chateau, and guided sightseeing in Paris.
From Paris, guests travel by high-speed train to Lyon where they’ll board the ms Swiss Emerald for a second nine-night cruise, this time along the Rhône. Highlights include tours and tastings at vineyards in Burgundy and Chateauneuf-du-Pape, visits to historic abbeys, a tour of the Palais des Papes in Avignon, a game of petanque with locals in Viviers, and a revealing excursion to meet the cowboys of Provence’s Camargue region. After disembarking in Arles, guests will then travel to Monaco for a two-night stay at the stylish Fairmont Monte Carlo.
Designed specifically for families, Tauck’s second new itinerary for 2015 is the eight-day “Castles on the Rhine: Family Riverboat Adventure” from Basel to Amsterdam aboard Tauck’s new ms Inspire riverboat. Families will kick off their adventures by venturing outside of Basel to travel on the world’s steepest cogwheel train to the 7,000-foot summit of Mt. Pilatus in the Swiss Alps. Cruising along the Rhine on subsequent days, families will also visit sites in France, Germany and The Netherlands including Heidelberg Castle and one-thousand-year-old Reichenstein Castle, where Tauck’s guests will enjoy a guided tour, dinner and entertainment. Families will also enjoy fondue and chocolate tastings, a French cooking demonstration, a riverside cycling adventure, and a canal boat cruise and visit to the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam.
TAUCK SEES GROWTH IN FAMILY RIVER CRUISES
The “Castles on the Rhine” itinerary is Tauck’s third river cruise designed specifically for families, joining the company’s existing family cruises on the Danube and Rhône. Part of the Tauck Bridges portfolio of family travel adventures, the three river cruises offer some key benefits for families, according to Tauck CEO Mahar. “Having traveled extensively with our five children, my wife and I know firsthand how easy and convenient it is to unpack the family just once, as you do on a river cruise,” said Mahar. “Also, the scale of a riverboat is more intimate than the massive ocean-going cruise ships, and that smaller size naturally promotes family togetherness and intergenerational bonding.” Mahar also noted that river cruises provide daily opportunities for shore excursions, allowing greater exploration of each destination and thereby encouraging more educational enrichment.
About Tauck River Cruising
Named the “World’s Best River Cruise Line” by Travel + Leisure magazine in two of the past three years, Tauck will offer 19 river cruises in 2015 on the Danube, Rhône, Rhine, Seine, Moselle, Saône and Main rivers. Featured in Tauck’s portfolio are a number of themed cruises including the three Tauck Bridges cruises for families, itineraries for food and wine lovers on the Rhône, a classical music cruise along the Danube, and special holiday season departures celebrating the traditional Christmas markets along the Danube and Rhine.
For 2015 Tauck’s fleet of European riverboats will include the company’s two new Inspiration Class ships, the ms Inspire and ms Savor, as well as five Jewel Class ships. Each Tauck riverboat features a higher percentage of suites and a far lower total passenger capacity than ships in other river cruise lines, ensuring a more intimate, club-like ambiance. In addition, Tauck staffs each of its riverboats with far more service personnel than other lines; where Tauck has a Tauck Cruise Director and three Tauck Directors attending to the needs of up to 130 guests, other ships have just a single Cruise Director on board ships carrying up to 190 people (or 46% more passengers).
