Tauck Again Named “World’s Best River Cruise Line” By Travel + Leisure Readers
Focus on “Complete Destination Experience” and Innovation Lead to #1 Ranking for Second Straight Year
NORWALK, CT (July 7, 2014) For the second consecutive year, and for the third time in the last four years, Tauck has been named the “World’s Best River Cruise Line” by the readers of Travel + Leisure magazine, one of the world’s most authoritative and respected publications for travelers. The award, which will be presented to Tauck officials later this month in New York City, is based on the results of the magazine’s annual readers’ survey. Full survey results and a complete list of winners are featured on www.TravelandLeisure.com and will be published in the magazine’s August issue.
Tauck captured the award by amassing the highest score based on readers’ ratings in six categories: cabins/facilities, restaurants/food, service, itineraries/destinations, excursions/activities, and value. According to Tauck CEO Dan Mahar, the broad-based criteria provided a fitting means by which the company’s river cruises could be judged. “We provide a complete destination experience with all of the various elements seamlessly integrated and meticulously choreographed,” said Mahar. “Our river boats are thoughtfully and beautifully designed, and we also have 90 years experience immersing our guests into the history and culture of different destinations,” continued Mahar. “The insider access and unique cultural experiences we build into our river cruises were instrumental in achieving this honor.”
Tauck continues to focus on the future and constant improvement as it enhances its offerings across Europe. Earlier this year the company launched two new riverboats and four new river cruise itineraries, and it introduced a pioneering new innovation in lower-deck cabin design with the “loft cabins” on its two new Inspiration Class ships. The 225-square-foot loft cabins each feature a raised seating area, with a higher ceiling and a correspondingly taller window than is normally found in lower-deck cabins. The taller window allows far more natural light to fill the cabin, and its central panel can be opened to the outside air for ventilation.
Tauck also continues to bring new, authentic experiences to its river cruise itineraries. This year, for example, Tauck is hosting its guests at a private dinner inside 1,000-year-old Reichenstein Castle on the Rhine River in Germany. Also this year, guests traveling on Tauck’s new “Cruising the Seine plus Versailles, Paris and London” itinerary are attending a private talk on the life and times of former British Prime Minister Winston Churchill, presented by his granddaughter Celia Sandys, an internationally acclaimed author and speaker.
TAUCK ALSO NAMED ONE OF THE “WORLD’S BEST” TOUR OPERATORS
Besides taking the top spot as the “World’s Best River Cruise Line,” Tauck was also honored on the Travel + Leisure 2014 list of the “World’s Best Tour Operators,” marking the 17th consecutive year that the company was named to the list of the travel industry’s top tour operators. The Travel + Leisure awards are just the latest honors for Tauck; In June the company was named the “Best Tour Operator, USA & Canada” by TravelAge West magazine at a black-tie event in Los Angeles.
About Tauck River Cruising. Tauck offers 19 all-inclusive river voyages throughout Europe on a fleet of six ships. Each Tauck river cruise is fully inclusive with zero options sold, and with all shore excursions, gratuities, onboard beer, wine and premium spirits, airport transfers and more built into the price. Tauck river cruises are also notable for having fewer guests and a higher number of service personnel aboard each vessel, to ensure an intimate, club-like atmosphere and superior service. On each Tauck ship, a Tauck Cruise Director and three Tauck Directors attend to the needs of no more than 130 guests, compared to other cruise lines’ ships of the same size where a single cruise director is charged with the care of up to 190 guests (or 46% more passengers).
The trio of Tauck Directors, often working in tandem with local experts, also lead the company’s signature shore excursions. These shore excursions leverage Tauck’s 90 years of guided tour expertise to provide insider access to exclusive experiences, from an elegant “Imperial Evening” with dinner and classical music inside a private Viennese palace, to a market tour and tasting at Les Halles de Lyon in Provence.
