  • Blue Danube Westbound

I was on this cruise in September, 2016, and it was truly wonderful. There really is not a lot of extra time in Vienna. The ship is docked nowhere close to the center of the city where all the things are that you want to see, and it takes a good amount of time to get there from the boat. Once you are in the city, stay there. Shuttles run back and forth between the city and the boat. The first morning is spent on a drive around tour, then a walking tour. You are then free to have lunch on your own. After lunch we went to the Hofburg Palace to see the royal apartments and the silver chamber. This is a choice for the next day, but do it on the first day afternoon since it is right in town and easy to see on your own. We also went to the Albertina Museum, conveniently located by the shuttle stop. The next day we went on the excursion to Schonnbrun Palace. WOW!!! It's good to be king. The Schonnbrun excursion ends either at the boat or back in the center of town. We went into town for lunch and more exploring. The last shuttle leaves for the boat @ 4:15. Have a wonderful trip!!! Nancy We have booked another river cruise in April, 2018, for Holland and Belgium in the spring.

  • attire for Switzerland Tour

Most important is to be prepared to layer your clothing. You will be at high altitudes where a couple of layers will be adequate. We were there in September of last year and only needed a light windbreaker over a long sleeve shirt and maybe a neck scarf. The early mornings were cool. Jeans/dockers and sneakers will be acceptable during day time touring or shorts if it is warmer. The tour is pretty casual, no churches or other formal sites. At nighttime dining most men changed to slacks and a nice shirt but it doesn't have to be a dress shirt. Ladies usually wore nice slacks and a nice blouse or sweater. The arrival reception and departure reception are usually when people dress a little nicer, but business or formal attire is not required. The dress for these events varies widely based on the comfort level of the participants. Common advice is to pack items that you can mix and match. Most usually wear the same items two or three times. It has been said before, no one really pays attention to what you wear so feel free to dress to your comfort level. We only brought sneakers and another pair of casual shoes for the dinners. When you are scheduled to stay two nights at the same hotel many laundered small items in the sink and let them dry over the bathtub. If you need to have items dry cleaned or pressed at the hotel be prepared to pay a premium price.

It was in the early days of having a GPS that I first noticed a change. I was on my way to a New Year’s party. I wasn’t familiar with the area, but I had typed it into the GPS so I was sure of making it. That thing would get me there one way or another. If I made a wrong turn, it would recalculate and get me to my destination from where...

After touring Cuba (and boy, was that great!) I returned to a pile of tasks that had to be done. The pile was messy and stale. So on Monday morning I launched into it, bore down and by the end of the day I was feeling pleased at how much I had gotten done.
